The Civic Theater
Joan Armatrading's final tour stops at the Civic Theater April 26.
has announced upcoming performances by singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading
and Oasis-half Noel Gallagher
with his band Noel Gallagher's High-Flying Birds.
Armatrading, a veteran of more than 40 years of performance, has announced she won't be retiring, but will retire from touring after her current worldwide tour. In a statement on her website, Armatrading wrote, "For the first time these concerts will be me solo on stage playing the guitar and piano and singing. ... I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience." She performs at the Civic April 26
(the night of the first Sunday of Jazz Fest).
Gallagher, meanwhile, seems to be smitten with the saxophone, which is central to his new band. On his website, he writes, "I know I’m going to be accused of sax crimes. I'm guilty of saxual harassment. But fuck it. This is not Oasis. There’s nobody to tell me not to do it. And when you listen to that saxophone, please, don’t think about the guy from Spandau Ballet. Think about a dude from New Orleans in 1963, smacked out of his head and incredibly cool, because it’s time to reclaim the saxophone
." Gallagher will be at the Civic May 10
Tickets for both shows go on sale Fri., Jan. 23 at 10 a.m.
