Baristas, get your latte art ready.
The first-ever "Thursday Night Throwdown" is headed to New Orleans this Thursday, January 15 at Spitfire Coffee, pitting some of the city's top coffee talent against each other in a (friendly) latte art competition. (Read my cover story on "third wave coffee" in this week's Gambit.)
Thursday Night Throwdown began in 2008 at Octane Coffee in Atlanta as a way for coffee makers across the city to gather and celebrate their craft.
This inaugural New Orleans event is focused on latte art, with competitors going head-to-head (two at a time) in a bracketed showdown. The grand prize winner will receive a bag of culinary treats from shop owners and friends of coffee throughout the city.
Coffee enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and cheer on the competitors, turning the event into a party for all-things-coffee in New Orleans.
