The latest addition to the city's ever-growing pizza landscape arrived in the Warehouse District Tuesday with the official opening of Wood Pizza Bistro & Taphouse.
Located on the corner of Andrew Higgins and Tchoupitoulas directly across from Cochon, the restaurant has an impressive array of beers on tap in addition to a full range of wood-fired pizzas and appetizers. The pizzas are crafted by Chef Will Salsbury, previously of Pizza Domenica, and cooked in a scene-stealing, bright red pizza oven inside the restaurant's dining room.
Appetizer offerings range from scallops with cauliflower, coriander, mint, almonds, yogurt and black sesame to seasoned flatbread with a white bean puree. Pizzas are entirely customizable, but specialty pies include a particularly enticing mushroom pie with garlic cream sauce, red onion, asiago and a drizzle of olive oil.
The restaurant's charmingly lit patio full of umbrella covered tables is sure to be a hit with those sneaking off for a lunchtime bite or looking for a spot to linger into the wee hours over a pint.
