Instead of toasting the new year with a flute of sparkling wine, some do it with a tulip glass of beer. Some beer fans raise a glass of something special they have been saving for the occasion, but there also are a few beer destinations to consider.

The Avenue Pub (1732 St. Charles Ave., 504-586-9243) holds its fourth annual New Years Eve celebration starting at 5 p.m. Dec. 31. The Pub’s beer list includes Cantillon Fou' Foune, Amager-Mikkeller Hr. Frederiksens vaesel Brunch, Tilquin Gueuze, Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break on sour cherries, De La Senne Taras Boulba, bourbon barrel-aged Struise Triple Reserva, 3 Fonteinen Zwet.be, Siren Craft Brew-Mikkeller Limoncello IPA, Trois Dames Fiancee Pinot Noir, Trois Dames-Six Point Jalapeno Raspberry Double and Struise Sint Amatus. The much coveted Cantillon Fou' Foune will be tapped early, so plan accordingly.

The Courtyard Brewery (1020 Erato St.) will be open on New Year's Eve and it will mark the arrival of 2015 by opening a magnum of Corsendonk Christmas Ale at midnight. Owners Lindsay Hellwig and Scott Wood will offer grilled oysters when the brewery opens at 11 a.m. on New Year's Day.

In the Riverbend, Cooter Brown's Tavern's Snooty Cooter (509 S. Carrollton Ave., 504-866-9104) will tap a keg of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout at 5 p.m. Dec. 31.

Although NOLA Brewing and the Tap Room (3001 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-301-0117) will be closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the free Friday brewery tour will run at 2 p.m. Jan. 2, 2015.
