"There's really no story behind the name 'Monkey Monkey' except that we thought it was fun," said Ryan Dempsey, as he and other Monkey Monkey Coffee and Tea employees painted finishing touches on the new space and arranged perky-colored chairs Wednesday afternoon. It officially opens next week.
Located in a corner spot at 4641 South Carrollton Avenue, Monkey Monkey Coffee and Tea adds a daytime hangout spot to an area in need of an extra caffeine boost.
The spacious coffee shop (which replaces a hookah bar) is breezy and sunny, with multi-colored tables and couches meant for snacking and lounging. The menu features a wide selection of coffee drinks, including granitas, mochas and lattes, as well as specialty loose-leafs teas and Italian sodas.
Monkey Monkey plans to serve pastries (including cinnamon rolls) and cookies made in house, in addition to locally made bagels and cakes. Savory options will include BLTs and chicken salad sandwiches when the cafe opens.
