There's never a shortage of excuses to run around from bar-to-bar drinking, and this Saturday a new, breakfast-appropriate opportunity hits town.
The Bloody Marathon — held for the past two years in Baton Rouge — is migrating to New Orleans this Saturday, with runners dashing between some of the city's best downtown bars, stopping to sample Bloody Marys (or mimosas) along the way.
"We will be dressing in retro workout gear and dancing our way through the [French] Quarter and Marigny to try Bloody Marys at some of the city's best bars," said organizer Katie East. "We stay at each bar for a set amount of time and then run on to the next as a group. Usually, we spend 30 minutes at each bar."
Bloody Mary and mimosa specials will be available at every bar, with an $18 entree fee guaranteeing a runner's number, bracelet to receive drink discounts and 2014 Bloody Marathon T-shirt.
The Note, Checkpoint Charlie's, R Bar, Lost Love Lounge, Spitfire and more are all on this year's route. The end of the race will culminate with prizes for the best Bloody Mary and best marathoner.
