New Orleans Pelicans players showed off their acting chops (and kitchen skills) this week in a short promotion which aired in conjunction with the season's opening game.
Pelicans players, head coach Monty Williams and owner Tom Benson joined chef John Besh at Borgne, where the NBA stars carried out a schtick as a team of chefs preparing for a meal to serve to owner Tom Benson.
Highlights include: "We want everything perfect and no turnovers," says Williams as a loaf of bread slips off a tray onto the floor.
Anthony Davis schools everyone on the proper way to douse what appears to be a cheesestick in ranch dressing. "No, you don't dip, you dunk like this!" A side-by-side comparison of Davis dunking the fried stick and dunking a basketball then ensues, as Davis winks at the camera.
"Look chefs, no one in here is the star," says Williams, as Davis flashes a vaguely smug and disappointed look. The video then, curiously, cuts to a clip of a soft-shelled crab being fried.
Benson delivers the punchline, as the "chefs" remove their jackets after serving the meal to reveal Pelicans uniforms. "Woo! I thought you guys looked familiar," he sighs.
"The problem with Pelicans opening night is I lose all my best chefs," laments John Besh as the video closes and the Pelicans dash away from their culinary adventure.
