Prolific New Orleans rapper Lyrikill — aka Chuck Jones, the Delhi, Louisiana native who has helped galvanize New Orleans' independent hip-hop community with popular events like Soundclash — released his latest EP, The Nostalgia, this month.

The EP — hosted by producer Statik Selektah and produced by GPNYC's Prospek — also features spots from City Sparks, Elespee, JusKwan, Impulss, Jon Mercure, Suave and others. Lyrikill's vintage R&B samples are pumped up with aggressive snare pops (on "Unsolicited") or allowed to groove along the MC's direct, low-key flow (on "To the Sky"). Lyrikill attacks the title track himself, with a bluesy, minor-key dirge keeping afloat his lines, admitting "all I got is this MPC with a few beats, a condenser microphone and some loose-leaf sheets, hoping something spiritual will speak through me, and pull me off that water before I sink too deep."

Watch the video for the opening track, the spaced-out, lo-fi funk "Throne Killa":
