Lost Bayou Ramblers celebrate the release of Live at Gasa Gasa Oct. 11.
Rory Danger & the Danger Dangers
is the alias for a local supergroup of New Orleans musicians in rockabilly costume. The band features Aurora Nealand
as Rory Danger, with Marc Paradis
and Andre Bohren
of Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes and Spencer Bohren, Casey Coleman, Bill Malchow, Scott Potts
of Debauche, and Tyler Thompson
of Shotgun Jazz Band.
The band's debut, The Age of Exploration
, mixes vintage surf rock and backroom rockabilly, bursting with the chops of the band's stacked lineup. Its live-room feel captures the band's energetic, wild roadhouse performances.
The band celebrates the album's release at 10 p.m. tonight at One Eyed Jacks (615 Toulouse St.). Tickets $15.
Lafayette's Grammy Award-nominated Cajun rock 'n' roll outfit Lost Bayou Ramblers
followed 2012's massive Mammoth Waltz
with an overdriven down-home live album, Live at Gasa Gasa
, recorded at the Freret Street venue making waves for its indie, punk and locally diverse concert schedule. The album was released Sept. 30.
The album is slightly in-the-red, with overdriven guitars, fiddle and accordion joining the band's explosive songwriting, elevating the set from a Saturday night dancehall to rowdy punk show. Live at Gasa Gasa
gathers songs from Mammoth Waltz
, some covers, and a new track, a preview of the band's upcoming studio album due early next year.
The band celebrates the release of Live at Gasa Gasa
at, fittingly, Gasa Gasa (4920 Freret St.) at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. New Orleans alt-country outfit Coyotes
opens. Tickets $10.
