The 78 Project Movie is a new documentary chronicling the journey of filmmakers Alex Steyermark & Lavinia Jones Wright, who traveled across the country in 2012 and 2013 to capture authentic American roots music by making live, one-of-a-kind 78-rpm records using an original 1930s direct-to-disc recorder. Inspired by the work of legendary ethnomusicologists like Alan Lomax, the film explores the significance of American songs and the human connections found through the music. Included is a stop in Arnaudville, Lousiana, for a recording of the Lost Bayou Ramblers' Louis Michot with Ashlee Michot and Corey Ledet. As part of their "78 Project Road Tour," Steyermark and Wright will introduce the film's one-time showing at Zetigeist Films and make a live, on-the-spot recording of New Orleans saxophonist Rob Wagner.
The 78 Project Movie screens tonight only, Sept. 26, at 7:00 p.m. at Zeitgeist Movies. More info here.
