The trailer for Rosewater — the first feature film by screenwriter and director Jon Stewart of The Daily Show — was released yesterday to coincide with the film's world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, the film got a warm reception from the festival crowd. It probably didn't hurt that Stewart showed up to introduce the film in person.

Stewart adapted the screenplay for his narrative film from the book They Came For Me, by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy. The film tells the true story of British-based journalist Bahari's 118-day imprisonment by the Iranian government when he returned to his native Iran in 2009 to cover the presidential election for Newsweek. Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu mamá también) plays Bahari. Rosewater is the film Stewart shot last summer while John Oliver filled in for him on The Daily Show. Stewart provides a personal introduction for the trailer embedded above.

Rosewater is scheduled to open nationwide on Nov. 7.
