, the online farmers market, opened in a former firehouse in Faubourg Marigny
just over a year ago. It soon moved to a much larger 4400-square-foot warehouse space in the Lower Garden District, and by June 2014, it had grown
from five to 25 full-time employees. Tess Monghan, director of New Orleans Good Eggs, announced it will move to a new location at 4001 Earhart Blvd. in fall, doubling its space, and continues to add employees, with a current crew of 35 full-time staff and several part-time workers. (One of the employee perks is a provided lunch program, made from produce from its suppliers. The New York Times

Good Eggs was founded in San Francisco in 2011 and it operates in the Bay Area, New York, New Orleans and Los Angeles. Its mission is to support local food systems by making it easier for producers to reach customers. Customers can get farmers market produce on a daily basis (available by delivery or pick up), and that delivery system can allow farmers to spend more time producing and less time working a stand at a market. Good Eggs is a technology company, and its innovation is using its web systems to connect local buyers and sellers and streamline delivery.
Good Eggs has altered and expanded its approach as it has responded to customer demand. Most of the produce available to New Orleans customers comes from within 100 miles of New Orleans, from Louisiana or Mississippi, but it recently added peanut butter and almond butter from a small North Carolina producer, so it can offer the staple item at an affordable price, Monaghan says. New Orleans Good Eggs also added olive oil from a California producer involved with San Francisco Good Eggs.
As a back-to-school special, Good Eggs will offer a free bag of apples with ($25 minimum) orders taken Sept. 7-14 for delivery or pick-up Sept. 9-19.
Good Eggs has signed a lease on the new space. Monaghan expects operations to begin there by Thanksgiving, which was a busy time for the company last year, she says. The larger space will allow Good Eggs to install walk-in refrigerators and a freezer.
