French director Marcel Camus' 1959 classic Black Orpheus will be presented by Shotgun Cinema tonight, Wednesday, August 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Marigny Opera House, 725 St. Ferdinand Street. Based on a theatrical adaptation of the Greek legends of Orpheus and Eurydice, the film re-imagines the story as part of the Carnival of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. Camus' lush film was shot on location in Rio during Carnival and went on to win the both the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. There's nothing else quite like Black Orpheus, and it's a perfect match for Shotgun Cinema's typically high-quality picture and sound. Tickets are $7. More info here.
