Erin Rose barkeep Murf Reeves will be donating his tips today to the bartender-founded nonprofit Wine to Water.
From 4-11 p.m. today, your tips to barman Murf Reeves will be transformed into clean drinking water. That’s because Reeves, who’s behind the stick at the Erin Rose
(811 Conti St., 504-522-3573), will donate every last buck to Wine to Water
, a bartender-founded nonprofit that’s built rainwater tanks, repaired broken wells and delivered filters to 250,000 people in need.
“Water runs the planet, so if it goes, everything goes,” Reeves says. “I thought I could help because I’m in a unique bar, a cool place that reaches a lot of people.”
Erin Rose customers tend to ask for his Sazeracs and margaritas, he says (shots of Jameson, too). Today he hopes to raise $500 for the clean water initiative.
Reeves, and nearly 100 bartenders from 20 countries, come to the cause through Just One Shift
, a weeklong fundraiser founded by bartender and industry expert Gaz Regan. Last year, Regan inspired bartenders to raise $40,000 through Just One Shift, with those proceeds also benefitting Water to Wine. He’ll donate his own tips from a shift tonight at The Dead Rabbit in Manhattan. And if Just One Shift raises $100,000 this year, Regan promises to shave his Rob Ryan-worthy locks of hair.
Are you a bartender who wants to help? Just One Shift runs through May 18, so there’s still time to sign up
