Documentary Birth of the Living Dead screens at Zeitgeist

The entire zombie apocalypse thing — not to mention that last 45 years of seat-of-your-pants guerilla filmmaking — can be traced back to 1968 socio-political horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Directed by then-28-year-old college dropout George Romero with a budget of $114,000, the film inspired countless imitators before being selected for preservation by the LIbrary of Congress through its National Film Registry in 1999. A new documentary by Rob Kuhns, Birth of the Living Dead, shows how Romero assembled a motley crew of non-professionals to create his masterpiece. The documentary screens tonight through Wednesday, October 30, at 9:00 p.m. each night (except Monday) at Zeitgeist Movies. More info here.
