"Her voice and perspective serve as an authority on subjects that are associated with the beating heart of New Orleans, but are too often taken for granted or mischaracterized," said Patrick Armstrong, one of the conference's organizers. "She spoke at Rising Tide 6 on the Brass Bands panel, and we're excited to announce that she has joined the lineup as our keynote speaker for Rising Tide 8."
Cotton, who had 11 surgeries in the weeks following the shooting, continues to recuperate. Just before the shooting, she launched a new website, New Orleans GoodGood
, which has become a repository of updates on her condition and links to articles about the shooting.

Previous keynote speakers have included David Simon, Harry Shearer, Richard Campanella, John Barry and Mac Maclelland.
More details about this year's panels and speakers will be posted on the Rising Tide website
