Gambit Emerging Chefs Challenge to showcase New Orleans' up-and-coming culinary talents


Gambit's Emerging Chef Challenge
New Orleans' kitchens are full of young talent — whether that kitchen is in a white-tablecloth restaurant, a pop-up or a food truck. Encouraging and celebrating those up-and-coming culinary talents is the goal of Gambit's inaugural Emerging Chefs Challenge, a cooking competition that will be held Aug. 28 at The Cannery in Mid-City. Twelve finalists have been invited to participate. Each will serve a specialty small plate or dish of his or her own choosing, and attendees will taste and vote on their favorites.

The rules:

•  Qualifying candidates must currently be employed in the greater New Orleans area.
• They must also currently hold the position of head chef, executive chef or chef de cuisine 
• Chefs must not have held this position for longer than 3 years

The 12 chef finalists are: Jeff Mattia of American Sector, Nick Hufft of Barcadia, Brett Duffee of Bayona, Stacy Hall of Dick & Jenny’s, Anthony Scanio of Emeril’s Delmonico, Nick Lama of Gautreau’s, Camille Boudreaux of Killer Poboys, Mia Calamia of La Divina Gelateria, Lincoln Ownes of Meme’s Bar & Grill, Tres Barnard of We’ve Got Soul, Vanessa Thurber of Vine & Dine and Brad McGehee of Ye Olde College Inn.

Your $25 ticket includes a taste of all 12 contestants' dishes, two beer or wine drinks, and one vote to help determine the winner, who will receive a $1,000 prize. Additional information, chef biographies, and limited tickets are now available online.
