The City of New Orleans issued a press release this morning touting the unprecedented success of the local film industry in 2012. According to year-end projections, spending on locally produced films increased by 23% in 2012 over the previous year. In 2012, the industry generated $669.8 million in direct spending on 61 tax-credit film projects in New Orleans, compared with $544 million on 46 projects in 2011. “The film industry in New Orleans has becoming a major economic engine that puts hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economy, creating jobs and supporting local businesses,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu in today's prepared statement.
