Founded by Tia Maria Torres, Villalobos Rescue Center is the star of the Animal Planet reality series Pit Bulls and Parolees, which follows Torres and the crew at the center. After being forced to move from its California facility, it opened another, this one in New Orleans. The new location celebrates its grand opening tomorrow.
The nonprofit center works to rehabilitate and help rescue pitbulls through its parolee and adoption programs, among others. Its grand opening is tomorrow from noon to 5 p.m. at 4525 N. Claiborne Ave. (The opening also will be streamed live on its website.) The crew relocated more than 150 pitbulls from its California ranch to the center.
The event also has food, live music and local vendors, like Petcetera, Dag’s House and Belladoggie. The animal cast of Pit Bulls and Parolees also will be on site.
The center opens full-time next week, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Kennel hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Visit the website or call 948-4505 for details.
