Tonight: Anvil at Siberia

The once forgotten Canadian metal band Anvil, the star and subject of the real-life This Is Spinal Tap rockumentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, performs at Siberia (2227 St. Claude Ave.) at 9 p.m. tonight.

Founded in the early '70s, Anvil was an up-and-comer in the early '80s and touring metal monsters and Metal Blade Records signees. The band's 1981 debut Hard 'N' Heavy preceded the thrash it created. But the band faded into obscurity after never "making it," thanks to poor management decisions and bad timing. The 2008 documentary, filmed years after the band's moments of fame, highlighted the oddball pairing of guitarist and vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner amidst a disappointing "reunion" tour abroad — the film stirred up interest again, and the band later performed on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and sold out shows across Europe. The current 2012 tour started last month and continues through February.

Mountain of Wizard and DJ Penetrol also perform. Tickets are $15.
