It's official: Free People is coming to New Orleans

Edit: An earlier version of this post listed the opening date as spring 2013. Free People's PR department has since corrected the original date they sent me. The store is coming this spring.

Even though I'm five years older than its target consumer (via Free People's website: "And that's just who we wanted to reach: a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough ..."), I dig me some Free People. They make this thermal shirt that's my go-to piece on weekends, because as cloying as the "sweet to tough" description is, in this case it's really apt. That shirt is sexy (low neckline! cleavage! it's pink!) without trying too hard (it's essentially a piece of thermal underwear). I also just bought a Free People leopard-print cardigan, and ladies, if there's a staple your wardrobe really needs, it's a leopard-print cardigan.

Anyway, the point is that Free People is opening a brick-and-mortar store in New Orleans, and they're currently hiring for positions ranging from sales associates to store manager. Free People's marketing and PR department confirmed that the store is tentatively scheduled to open in spring 2012. So, exciting news on the fashion horizon. Now if only we could get an H&M.
