Listen: Gambit's free music Friday

Earlier this month, prolific MC Curren$y picked up the Cool Kids' Mikey Rocks for Spitta's eastern New Orleans-rooted Jet Life Recordings. Hear Rocks and other Jet Lifers Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy on the shimmering, heavenly '70s-soul-riffing single "1st Place" from Curren$y's upcoming collaborative album Jet Life: Jet World Order, out Nov. 29. The rapper also performs at House of Blues tomorrow at midnight.

Download Weathaman09's bounce remix of Beyonce's recent single "Love On Top."

Washington D.C.'s Wale performs 11 p.m. tonight at the House of Blues. Read more about the show in Gambit, and download his Seinfeld-inspired (and heavily sampled) 2008 mixtape The Mixtape About Nothing here, and grab its follow-up More About Nothing here.

The WTUL Record Raid returns noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Hi-Ho and AllWays Lounges and Siberia. There are more than 20 vendors, and admission is free. The records are not. More info here.

After the jump, check the line-a-minute, club-ready single and video from New Orleans' clearly very sure of himself Kris Baptiste. And more music.

Meridian, Miss. rapper Big K.R.I.T., who recently joined the Def Jam group, is all over the place. (Grab his stellar 2011 output here.) In the midst of a tour with Curren$y and Method Man, he's collaborated with The Roots, including a series of stark music videos for "Make My" from the band's 2011 album undun. Here's K.R.I.T. with T.I. for that rapper's comeback single "I'm Flexin'". Video here.

And a bonus for you: The reformed "classic" Guided By Voices lineup released "The Unsinkable Fats Domino," a sort of tall tale about the titular New Orleans musical hero surviving the federal floods from Hurricane Katrina. Download it here, via frontman Robert Pollard. Thanks, Bob.
