Listen: Gambit's free music Friday



The 2011 Essence Music Festival is this weekend at the Louisiana Superdome, with events at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Headliners include Mary J. Blige, Kanye West and dozens others.

Standout soul songstress Jill Scott also is on the bill — she's performing tomorrow. New Orleans alt-rock outfit Mutemath announced this week the band's next album, Odd Soul, will be released October 2011. Here's a teaser, with drummer Darren King and bassist Roy Mitchell-Cardenas, all chopped 'n' screwed, sort of:
