Usher joins Essence Fest lineup

Closing down his OMG tour (and returning to New Orleans after a December 2010 appearance), R&B artist Usher will join the 2011 Essence Music Festival lineup.

Usher Terrence Raymond IV's 1997 album My Way and its self-titled single shot the singer to pop radio ubiquity. His most recent efforts include 2010's Raymond v. Raymond — featuring the monster hits "OMG" and "There Goes My Baby" — and the EP Versus.

Usher also has helped post-Katrina New Orleans through rebuilding projects, including renovating Ernie K-Doe's Mother-in-Law Lounge.

The 17th annual three-day fest, held July 1-3 at the Louisiana Superdome, also includes Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, a reunited New Edition, Boyz II Men, Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Trey Songz, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and others.
