Christmas specials — on local stages



Who doesn't love Christmas specials — particularly when they're live? Three offbeat takes on Yuletide traditions will be opening in the next couple of weeks as an antidote to holiday shopping. And you've got your choice of ho-ho-ho or bah-humbug:

Scrooge in Rouge is a British music-hall take on Dickens featuring Ricky Graham, Jeff Roberson (aka Varla Jean Merman) and Yvette Hargis. It plays Le Chat Noir Dec. 3-26. The trailer:

• Also at Le Chat Noir: A.J. Allegra dons the elf outfit for The Santaland Diaries, the popular stage version of David Sedaris' hilarious tale of working at Macy's during the holidays. It runs Dec. 6-20. Here's Sedaris reading the original:

• Last but not least... It’s All About (Christmas) Eve when the Running With Scissors kids rework the 1990s camp-striptease classic Showgirls into Snow Girls at Southern Rep. The setting's been changed from Vegas to the Arctic Circle, and the official trailer beckons: "Spend Your Holiday on the Pole!"
