Gambit had a blast last night at the Press Club of New Orleans' 52nd annual awards dinner at Harrah's Hotel. WDSU meteorologist emeritus Dan Milham was the emcee, and lifetime achievement awards were presented to Byron Hughey of Hughey & Associates (by WWL-TV's Dominic Massa) and retired Times-Picayune columnist Angus Lind (by the T-P's Dave Walker). Thanks to everyone at the Press Club for putting on such a great event.
The big news for us was that the Alex Waller Memorial Award -- the Press Club's highest honor for print journalism -- went to our own Noah Bonaparte Pais, reporter, music columnist, and WWL Morning News contributor extraordinaire, and David Winkler-Schmit received the Ashton Phelps Memorial Award. But we did OK in the regular categories, too ...

We got a great picture of Lee Zurik pretending to beat up Travers Mackel, which the guys
asked begged us not to run here ... so you'll have to settle for one shot of the Gambiteers who were still left standing (albeit wobbly) at the end of the evening.
