That handsome devil on the left is Gambit's new "Happy Hours" app, which will steer you (via the magic of GPS location) to the nearest watering hole that is, right this second, selling drinks at happy hour prices -- searchable by time, location, price or whatever criteria you specify. (And if you're not looking for a happy hour right this second, it's a great way to keep addresses and phone numbers for the city's bars in your pocket.)

Gambit's Happy Hours is a free download for many smartphone platforms, including the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android (search the app store on your phone for "Happy Hours," and look for the orange button with the little martini glass). And there's a regular Web version too for those of you who aren't smartphone inclined: just click on over to happyhours.bestofneworleans.com.

To kick off our new app, we're having -- what else -- a happy hour next Wednesday, July 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Ralph's on the Park (900 City Park Ave.), with cheap beer, inexpensive cocktails and free happy hour food whipped up by Ralph's excellent chef Chip Flanagan.

Please come join us on Wednesday -- and look out on Sunday for our annual Gambit's 50 Best Bars of New Orleans issue, with editors' picks, lots of sidebars, and a list of the favorite bars of some local luminaries, from DJ Soul Sister to James Gill, from Stacy Head to Arthur Hardy.

Bonus: The Housemartins' 1986 classic "Happy Hour." Skinny suits! Eighties hair! Claymation! Insanely catchy chorus that will get stuck in your head!
