TONIGHT: Gulf Coast benefits planned nationwide

Gambit has often called on the global music community — artists who pride themselves on their environmental and humanitarian aid — to step up to the same levels it has in the wakes of other national (and international) disasters. It hasn't (for the most part). But fundraisers have appeared at the local level, and tonight, from California to New Hampshire, venues around the country are staging Coast to Coast benefits with a fundraising goal of $100,000 to benefit the Gulf Restoration Network.

More than 90 venues and cities are participating — Los Angeles has several: The Roxy, The Viper Room, The Mint, Fais Do Do, Comedy Store and Three Clubs. Other participants include Washington, Colorado ,Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire and Quebec. Artists and other celebrities include Rebelution, Galactic, Kaki King, Mickey Avalon, Ben Lee, Daryl Hannah and Ed Begley Jr.

In Louisiana, there's The Shed and Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette, and the Rustic Cowboy and Riverside Warehouse in Shreveport.
