Online betting site offers odds on which creatures will become extinct from the Gulf oil disaster

In her book The Shock Doctrine, Naomi Klein outlines the ways companies have learned to profit from disasters. One can imagine Klein shaking her head at Paddy Power, an Irish online betting site that's now offering odds on which sea life will first be made extinct by the Gulf oil catastrophe.

The odds as of this writing:

• Kemp's Ridley turtle: 4/5 (for good reason)

• Bluefin tuna: 6/4

Brown pelicans: 8/1

For those who enjoy the longshot, there's also 16/1 odds for two species of whale, and 20/1 odds for the Gulf sturgeon. According to The New York Times, "In the first six hours of betting on the species extinctions, there were more than 50 bets placed."
