Six declared New Orleans mayoral candidates – John Georges, Troy Henry, Leslie Jacobs, Ed Murray, James Perry, and Nadine Ramsey – and one undeclared candidate, Rob Couhig, spoke this morning at a forum hosted by the Afterschool Partnership, a group dedicated to providing services to local children during the hours they aren’t in school. The Partnership presented its “10 For 2010” plan and asked the candidates for their pledges to back its platform, which includes more recreational programs, job opportunities and a comprehensive database of youth resources. All seven candidates declared general support for the group’s goals, as well as for the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD). It was the largest gathering of mayoral hopefuls yet for the 2010 race.

New Orleans City Council candidates were also invited to present their youth platforms at the forum, which was held at the Junior League of New Orleans offices off St. Charles Avenue. Among those who attended and addressed the crowd: council-at-large candidates Jackie Clarkson, Nolan Marshall and Cynthia Willard-Lewis; District A candidates Jay Batt and Susan Guidry; and District E candidates Austin Badon Jr. and Cyndi Nguyen.

Qualifying for both the mayoral and council races ends Dec. 11.
