AmeriCorps granted America's WETLAND Conservation Corps (AWCC) $157,000 to help fund coastal restoration projects through 2010. According to AWCC, the organization completed more than 164 restoration projects with 54,000 service hours and recruited more than 5,000 volunteers between February 2007 and June 2009.

Starting Monday, Sept 14., the Army Corps of Engineers will be pumping sand onto the beach at Grand Isle, which means no beach access for 45 days. This extremely rainy weekend'll be the last chance to visit for more than a month. The good news: the Office of State Parks will allow beach camping once the project is finished.
