Storming the Bastille Day Block Party

Faubourg St. John is getting an early start on Bastille Day celebrations. The French national holiday is July 14, but this Saturday, July 11, the cluster of businesses along Ponce de Leon Street at Esplanade Avenue -- and their neighbors -- host their annual Bastille Day Street Fair.

There will be live music from the Pyranha Gypsy Swing Band and the Creole String Beans, a band that describes itself as the "best Yat cover band around."

The block is closed off for dancing in the street, and there will be a rummage sale and activities for kids.

Here's a list of participating businesses and what they will be selling:

Daniel’s on the Bayou – Vegetarian pasta, seco de pollo

Mr. Snowball

Nonna Mia’s - Pizza

Pal’s Lounge - BBQ chicken and black bean tacos, Old New Orleans Rum lemon blueberry-ade, NOLA Brewing blonde ale

Pull My Pork BBQ – barbecue

Santa Fe - Margaritas

Swirl Wine – French wine and beer

The festivities are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
