Kenner's Pellicano Ristorante Closes

Fine dining prospects in Kenner took a serious hit this week on the news that Pellicano Ristorante has closed. Owner Jeff Domangue sent a message to customers today announcing that the closure is effective immediately.

Pellicano opened a little more than a year ago on Williams Boulevard. Chris Cody was the chef and he prepared an imaginative and varied modern American menu, with plenty of French and Italian influences. A special we tried here one night in January had beautifully blackened scallops over what tasted like handmade tagliatelle. It was a dish that put the place on my list to visit again. Pellicano's wine list was also appealing, with a diverse and refreshingly affordable selection, including plenty of bottles priced under $20.

The restaurant was not easy to spot along busy Williams Boulevard, however, and apart from a comfortable bar the interior had all the charm of a suburban events hall or funeral parlor. Wine racks were topped with plastic plants, which may have been a necessity in a room with no chance of natural light.

Domangue left open the possibility of a return, writing in a message to customers that "(y)ou may see us again someday soon in another location."
