Listening Parties: Waaaay Better Than Talking Parties

Tonight at the Saint, New Orleans (by way of Philadelphia) indie-rock label Park the Van launches "PTV Happy Hour," a series of semimonthly listening parties for current and upcoming releases. First up: Tucson's Golden Boots, whose PTV debut The Winter of Our Discotheque dropped last week. I say it's a trippy, peyote-laced desert trek with Odelay-era Beck and The Soft Bulletin-era Flaming Lips as docents. Says PTV maestro Chris Watson: "They’re a lost clan of Arizonian sound shamans. Really one of our more far-out bands, psychedelic with a heavy Western influence. These guys are tape-heads — they love experimenting with sound and volume. ... (Co-founder) Dimitri (Manos) once made a Park the Van logo out of a tepee (in place of the signature orange parking cone).”

The Golden Boots listening party runs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. For all you coneheads, the complete schedule:

Tuesday, March 24 - The Peekers, Life in the Air

Tuesday, April 21 - The High Strung, Ode to the Inverse of the Dude

Tuesday, April 28 - Floating Action, s/t
