Apparently being injured on the sidelines while the your fellow teammates are on the field practicing is not as easy as just standing around. McKenzie has been getting some conditioning work in with trainers and working himself back into game shape so that he'll be ready to take the field once his knee recovers from offseason surgery. The worst part about being injured, though? Losing sleep.
"If you're injured you gotta get more treament so you get less sleep," he said. "You come into the training room a whole lot earlier, you're staying after a whole lot later, you're still getting the same meeting time."
And while he's not taking part in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 plays, McKenzie is still doing position drills and a regular conditioning program.
As for the general tedium of training camp, McKenzie said that hasn't affected him yet.
"It has not happened yet for me," he said of things getting repetitive. "I'm still trying to get into the groove of things right now. We're not even close to the halfway point so I think we're still finding our way through things right now.
