Friday Night Film Series: Dinner and a Classic Movie at Vintage

We have all seen some of our favorite television series pay homage to the film that is truly in love with the Big Apple.  In Gossip Girls, we see Blair (Leighton Messer) relive the famous “breakfast” scene made popular by the one and only Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. In another on-screen affair with New York City, we see hints of Breakfast at Tiffany’s revived in scene after scene of the television series Sex and the City. Fashion and the iconic Audrey Hepburn are sprinkled in almost every televised and filmed moment portraying party girls in NYC.  Why not see where it all began?

Why not go and see the original?  Go see what all the fuss is about.  Go see a young, charming George Peppard years before he mumbled the line, “I love it when a plan comes together.”  Go see the woman who made Holly Golightly not only a memorable character but a household name for party girls everywhere.  And don’t just see it in your living room; see it on a big screen.  See Breakfast at Tiffany’s as it is supposed to be seen.  See it this Friday night at Vintage, the space above The Savvy Gourmet!  The summer Friday night film series kicks off with the classiest of all vintage films—Breakfast at Tiffany’s starring:  Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal and Buddy Ebsen (Anyone a fan of The Beverly Hillbillies?  Ebsen was Paw).

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the 1961 Blake Edwards film based on the Truman Capote novella.  It is basically the story of a young party girl (Audrey Hepburn) and a gigolo (George Peppard) “saving” one another from the mean streets of the big city (Blake Edwards’ vision of New York City), but also from themselves.  The movie watched as much for its fashion as its story, helped to further romanticize the Tiffany brand name and forever immortalize the little black party dress. It is one of the classic romantic comedies.  Hepburn was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and the film won for the 1961 Best Song, “Moon River.”
