2006 Wolfberger Cremant d'Alsace Brut
A century-old winery just south of Colmar produces this lovely sparkling rosé from 100 percent Pinot Noir grapes. After fermenting in stainless steel tanks, the wine is bottle-aged for 15 months to allow it to ripen. The wine's delicate salmon color belies its full-bodied depth and style. In the glass, tiny bubbles bring bouquets of refreshing strawberry, watermelon and raspberry aromas. It's beautifully balanced, round and full-bodied with red berry fruit on the palate and a long-lasting mousse. And it doesn't break the bank. It's a great aperitif but also perfect for Thanksgiving dinner — excellent with turkey, ham, game, vegetables, sweet potatoes, pumpkin or pecan pie.
