A great find, this full-bodied wine from importer Jorge Ordonez tastes much more expensive than its price tag indicates, managing to exude velvety rich fruit and haunting depth in every sip. Sourced from 80- to 120-year-old vines, the wine is made from 100 percent Garnacha (Grenache) grown on hillside vineyards at an altitude of 3,000 feet. One swirl reveals ripe berry fruit aromas with a hint of alcohol leading into a cascade of juicy blackberry fruit flavors with chocolate and spice notes, soft tannins, an exceptional mouthfeel and lengthy finish. Good with duck, venison, roast pork, paella and braised lamb shanks. Where to buy it: Martin Wine Cellars Uptown, Metairie and Mandeville, Calhoun Superette, Swirl and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville. Where to drink it: Lola's and MiLa in the Pere Marquette Renaissance Hotel.
