Wine of the Week

The current generation of Spain's Chivite family, which has been making wine for nearly four centuries, harvested these grapes from Navarre, the wine region closest to France's southwestern border. Comprised of 100 percent Garnacha, this high-quality, value-priced wine illustrates the ideal balance between acidity and ripeness. Garnacha, the world's second most widely planted varietal, is believed to have originated in Spain and then proliferated across southern France where it's called Grenache. Often the featured grape in Languedoc and southern Rhone blends as well as the stunning rosŽs from Tavel, Provence and other points south, the hot-climate grape has migrated to Australia, California and elsewhere. Clean and fragrant with strawberry and wild flower scents, this wine refreshes with dry, crisp, flavors of red berries, tart cherry, blackberries and a sprinkle of white pepper at the end. A versatile food wine, enjoy it with seafood, salmon, salad, paella and tapas. It's ready to drink now.
