Wine of the Week

Central Chile's prime grape growing region encompasses the Maipo Valley, where this bargain-priced wine is produced. Made from 100 percent Merlot grapes and aged in French oak, this wine is a good example of the excellent red wine values exported from Chile. In the glass, inviting red and dark fruit aromas with a hint of vanilla are followed by bright red and black currants, plums, toasty notes and dried herbs on the palate. A super smooth and well-balanced wine with soft, even tannins, it's ready to drink now or in the next four years. A fine accompaniment to chicken, pork, veal and duck. Where to buy it: Cost Plus World Markets on Clearview Parkway and in Harvey and Covington. Where to drink it: Bravo Italian Kitchen in Metairie and Café Rani. (Listings current at press time.)
