Wine of the Week

Cotes du Rhone appellation wines, made from a blend of Southern Rhone varietals Ñ primarily Syrah, Grenache and Mouvedre, offer huge, value-priced favorites. FranceÕs unusually hot summer in 2003 provided a long growing season that allowed grapes to fully ripen, develop complexity, perfect balance and, in many cases, layers of mature fruit flavors. This very drinkable, medium-bodied wine exudes a freshness as well some of that often elusive complexity. A great accompaniment to roast game and fowl, steaks and chops or a plate of hearty cheeses. Where to buy it: The Wine Seller, Bacchanal and Sip, the new wine store at 3119 Magazine St. Where to drink it: Crescent City Brewhouse, Chateau du Lac. (Listings current at press time.)
