It's the Marlboro Man of red wine: smoke, leather and sun-wrinkled raisins. A big, southern French blend of old vine Carignan, Grenache Noir, Alicante Bouchet, Tempranillo and Syrah grapes, its nose suggests vanilla, black cherries and dried apricots; like the Man himself, its finish is tall, dark and tan(nic). This one will meet its match in deep gumbos, chicken with Mexican mole sauce, and red beans with sausage. Found at Martin Wine Cellar and on restaurant wine lists. -- Roahen
