United States of Amockracy: New Work by James E. Descant

He was once a local fixture, a habitué of flea markets and garage sales, a man on a mission in search of rocket parts. But not just any rocket parts " to blast into his chosen corner of the space-time continuum, Jimmy Descant needed Sputnik-era Electrolux vacuum cleaners, vintage chrome thermos bottles and obscure exotica of all sorts, as we see even in recent works like N.O. Fats de Fleur du Siren (pictured). But that was before Katrina propelled him far from his usual haunts, taking him to Washington D.C., where several of his rockets now adorn the aptly named Rocket Bar. Today he calls himself 'James E. Descant, American Artist, World Citizen. I now live and create in Colorado, but will always be a New Orleanian." — D. Eric Bookhardt
