The next Trim Kids program at the West St. Tammany YMCA starts Jan. 12, and lasts for 12 weeks. The pediatrics weight management program is designed for children 6 to 18 years old and addresses nutrition, behavior modification and physical activity to help kids reach and maintain a healthy weight.

Weekly meetings are held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the YMCA (71256 Francis Road, Covington). Parents may pick up registration packets at the YMCA or call Denise Thornton at (985) 893-9622. The Trim Kids program was developed in the 1980s by Dr. Melinda Sothern at the LSU Health Sciences Center.

The YMCA in Covington also offers a physical education program for homeschooled children from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.
