Coppertone, manufacturer of a variety of products that protect skin from the effects of the sun, launched an iPhone and iPod Touch application July 4 that can tell people what kind of sunscreen they need depending on where they are and what they're doing.
The free Coppertone MyUVAlert application can establish a personalized profile for every member of the family and recommend the most appropriate products for specific activities. By entering a ZIP code, the application tells you how strong UV rays are on a given day, what type of sun protection you need and how often you should reapply it. The system also sends alerts when it's time to put on more sunscreen.
You can download the app for free through the iTunes store at www.itunes.apple.com/us/app/coppertone-myuvalert. Coppertone's sun-care app isn't the only one available. Others found in the iTunes health and fitness section include Lancaster's Sun Expert, which is free; Sun Alert, which costs 99 cents; and Sunblock, available for $1.99.
