The Write Stuff

When you want your words to have an elegant impact, whether in a letter, a journal or an invitation, Scriptura (328 Chartres St., 299-1234; Lakeside Shopping Center Annex, 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 219-1113; 5423 Magazine St., 897-1555; www.scriptura.com) can give you as many options as there are words in the dictionary.

The 10-year-old stationer carries a variety of products in a range of prices, including all types of invitations, stationery and cards by artists such as R. Nichols and Alexa Pulitzer, Italian leather and hand-marbled paper journals, Moleskine products, glass pens, quality writing implements by Mont Blanc and others, calligraphy supplies, and gifts.

Sisters Margaret and Sallie Jones patterned their business after the elegant European papeteries and continually add new items to their stock. Currently the largest part of their business is designing custom invitations delivered with a heavy dose of personal service, and they've added three people to their graphics staff to keep up with the demand.

"We are doing more invitations than ever," says Margaret Jones. "I credit it to the fact that we have gone in a very couture direction. We are providing brides with invitations that are unique to them all the way from save-the-date announcements to the wedding announcements and programs. Our creative output has never been higher. We're doing three dimensionals, color studies, different things with photographs -- the sky's the limit."
