a local author, radio host, motivational speaker and news director for Clear Channel Radio New Orleans, received the Coca-Cola 'Salute to Sisterhood' Award during the 2004 Essence Festival last week. Pierre was honored in the category of 'Vanguard Voice,' recognizing extraordinary community involvement. Pierre co-hosts the CJ and Company Morning Show on WQUE-FM.

The Morial Convention Center-New Orleans
is one of 10 convention facilities in the country to have won a 2003 'Inner Circle' award by Association Meetings magazine. The publication bases its rankings on such criteria as flexible function space, quality of food and beverage services, and an overall high level of service by convention staff. The MCC reports that of its events last year, nearly 60 percent was repeat business.

Jesuit High School's alumni magazine, has won a Media Award from the national Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organization. At a recent awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., MADD honored the magazine's special edition, devoted to the issue of teenage drinking, with an award in the category of Community Awareness -- Underage Drinking. The Orleans Parish School Board's payroll office
continues its bumbling ways as several employees last week either received incorrect amounts on their paychecks, or no checks at all. Such errors have plagued the school system for years, with employees failing to receive paychecks on time as recently as two weeks ago. School officials admit there are serious flaws in the payroll system, and promise to get the bottom of the problem.
