Healing Center to host symposium on Mississippi River and coastline

The second annual Anba Dlo Water Symposium, focusing on the Mississippi River and disappearing Louisiana coastline, will be held at the New Orleans Healing Center Oct. 19 as part of the sixth annual Anba Dlo Halloween Festival. Pulitzer Prize-winning environmental reporter Bob Marshall of The Lens will moderate the "Got Water?" panel discussing diminishing municipal fresh water supplies and water resource management.

A second panel, "Making Decisions About the Future of the Mississippi River," will outline the river's impact on the environment and economy.

The festival takes its name from the Haitian Creole phrase for "beneath the waters." This year's theme is "Levee, Levee, Levee," a play on words referencing the Haitian Creole term for "wake up" (reveye, or leve). Admission is free, and the event begins at noon. — ALEX WOODWARD
