Saints and Sinners Literary Festival

comment
The fifth annual Saints and Sinners Literary Festival celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community's contribution to many literary genres through readings, master classes, panels and performances. For three days, local and national writers will read from their work, lead workshops on subjects like how to get published and lecture on topics ranging from writing erotica to mastering the 'coming out' autobiography. Two theatrical performances are part of Saturday's lineup; Wonder Woman: The Musical by Elizabeth Whitney (pictured), a tribute to 1970s lesbian feminism and Nighthawks by Evan Guilford-Blake, winner of the festival's first annual playwriting competition. At the closing reception Sunday, Dorothy Allison and Jim Grimsley will be honored with the newly established Outstanding Mid-Career Novelists' Prize, an award designed to promote successful lesbian and gay writers. A portion of the festival's proceeds will benefit the NO/AIDS Task Force. Events take place at locations throughout the French Quarter. Festival passes $100. Tickets for Wonder Woman: The Musical $10, all other events $25. -- Emily Hohenwarter
