Based on his personal collection of Harper's Weekly historic - illustrations of early Mardi Gras from the 1870s -1880s, actor and - Hazelnut co-owner Bryan Batt designed a line of plates with West Coast - artist Shelley Venema. Functional and decorative, the plates are - handmade using a reverse-decoupage process with gold leaf and are - sealed, signed and numbered — $235 for the 9-inch by 14-inch - "Flambeau" plate at Hazelnut (5515 Magazine St., 891-2424; - www.hazelnutneworleans.com).
